Primark shoplog

When writing this, I am in France again. Last week my internship started and I'm already very busy with my assignment and exploring my new environment (from which I will show some pictures later on). Unfortunately there is not much time spare to blog (or to read blogs... :( ) and the wifi is not that good. However, I will write some posts in advance now so you'll have something to read ;).

Terwijl ik dit schrijf ben ik weer terug in Frankrijk. Vorige week is mijn stage begonnen en ik ben alweer druk bezig met mijn opdracht en met het verkennen van mijn nieuwe woonomgeving (waarvan later nog foto's zullen volgen). Helaas is er niet veel tijd over om te bloggen (of andere blogs te lezen... :() en ook de wifi is niet heel geweldig. Maar ik zal nu wat posts klaar zetten zodat jullie wat te lezen hebben ;).


Before I went to France, I realized that I needed to buy some stuff to take with me. And for the first time in my life, I actually bought something at Primark! I know for most people that is really a normal thing, but the few times I went into the store, I ran out screaming because of all the people. This time it was (a little) less crowded, so I could find these cute items:

Voordat ik naar Frankrijk ging, realiseerde ik me dat ik nog wat dingen moest kopen om mee te nemen. En voor de eerste keer in mijn leven heb ik iets gekocht bij de Primark! Ik weet het, voor de meeste van jullie is dat heel normaal, maar ik vond het altijd veel te druk in de winkel dus ik rende heel snel weer naar buiten... Deze keer was het gelukkig minder druk en dus heb ik deze schattige items gescoord!

First these super cute socks :). I know, socks are boring, but I really needed them to take with me and I thought these looked cute :). I believe they were 3,50 euro per five.
Allereerst super schattige sokken :). I know, sokken zijn saai, maar ik had ze echt nodig om mee te nemen en ik vond dit setje wel heel schattig :). Ik geloof dat ze 3,50 euro per setje waren.

And then these super fluffy slippers! I love them! They are super warm and super soft, and for now, super white... They were 6,00 euro.
En dan deze superdonzige sloffen! I vind ze echt geweldig! Ze zijn super warm en super zacht, en voor nu nog super wit... Ze waren 6,00 euro.

Althought it was still warm outside, I decided it was a good idea to bring gloves and a scarf. These are super super soft, especially the gloves :). I'm very happy I brought them since I already used the gloves today! It is raining a lot over here and it is already becoming very cold... The scarf was 3,00 euro and the gloves were 4,00.
Ondanks dat het nog zomers weer was, besloot ik om handschoenen en een sjaal te kopen voor in Frankrijk. Deze zijn super super zacht, vooral de handschoenen :). Ik ben super blij dat ik ze meegenomen heb want de handschoenen heb ik vandaag al voor het eerst gebruikt! Het regent hier flink en het begint al koud te worden... De sjaal was 3,00 euro en de handschoenen 4,00 euro.

Finally time to bake!

The weather is a bit dull outside and I felt a huge urge to go bake something. It feels like autumn at the moment, so I felt the need to do something with cinnamon... Then I came across a recipe I had pinned before (Oh how I love pinterest) and I decided it was time to finally make these... Cinnamon rolls!!
Het weer is erg grauw buiten en ik had enorm zin om iets te bakken. Het voelt alsof het alweer herfst is, dus ik had zin in iets met kaneel... Toevallig kwam ik weer langs een recept dat ik eerder eens gepint had (Pinterest is echt ge-wel-dig!!!) en ik vond dat het eindelijk tijd werd om ze te maken... Kaneel rollen!!

The recipe comes from here and it is very easy. However, you do need a lot of patience! The dough has to rise 2 times (for both times I let it rest for +/- 60 minutes), to get them as fluffy as you desire :).
Het recept komt van hier (het is een Engels recept) en is heel simpel. Je hebt wel een hoop geduld nodig want het deeg moet 2x rijzen (ik heb het 2x een uur laten rijzen) om ze zo lekker donsachtig te krijgen :).


This is the topping for the rolls. I found it a bit weird since there is butter in it, but it tastes well.
Dit is het glazuur voor de rollen. Ik vond het een beetje vreemd dat er boter in gaat, maar het smaakt goed.

And this is the result! I'm very happy with how they turned out, especially since it is the first time I made them! I love recipes that turn out well the first time :).
En dit is het resultaat! Ik ben erg blij met hoe ze geworden zijn, zeker aangezien ik ze voor het eerst maakte. Ik hou er van als een recept meteen de 1e keer al lukt :).

 

Having patience is really worth while. But if you don't have that much patience, you can try out Rosie's way :).
Het loont echt de moeite om geduld te hebben met rijzen. Maar als je geen geduld hebt, kan je altijd Rosie's manier gebruiken :).

Shoplog France

As you know I came back from France a couple of weeks ago. However, blogging doesn't seem to go easy at the moment, so I haven't shown everything I wanted to yet. Therefore here the souvenirs I brought back home :).
Zoals jullie weten ben in een paar weken geleden teruggekomen uit Frankrijk. Het bloggen wil op het moment alleen niet zo erg, dus ik heb nog niet eens alles laten zien. Hierbij dus de souvenirs die ik mee naar huis genomen heb :).

I love to shop for clothes outside The Netherlands, I always find thing that better suit me than I can find in the 'regular' stores back here.
Ik vind het vooral super om kleding te shoppen in het buitenland. Daar vind ik meestal dingen die beter bij mijn smaak passen dan hier in Nederland.

And of course we found a thriftstore over there. Very fancy called a 'Brocante' (which has a totally different meaning in France than in the rest of Europe ;) ).

I didn't buy that much here... There was a lovely bed, but it didn't fit into the car (I tried! No I'm kidding, didn't even get the chance to try it ;) ).  But I was allowed to take these big plates home with me :).

En natuurlijk kwamen we een kringloopwinkel tegen. In Frankrijk worden die heel chique 'Brocante' genoemd, terwijl de rest van Europa toch iets anders onder brocante verstaat ;).

Ik heb hier niet heel veel gekocht... Er was echt een prachtig bed, maar dat paste niet in de auto (werd mij verteld, proberen mocht niet ;) ). Maar ik heb wel deze mooie serveerschalen meegenomen :).

To end with, two real souvenirs. A French cookbook, written in French so I can practise for my internship. And the Eiffeltower. I still really wanna go to Paris, but that has to wait. But since we did drive directly across Paris, I decided to take a little Eiffeltower home with me. Really bought in Paris (at a gas station, but that's my little secret ;).

Tot slot nog twee echte souvenirs. Een Frans kookboekje, in het Frans geschreven om alvast te oefenen voor m'n stage. En een Eiffeltoren(tje). Ik wil nog steeds heel graag een keer naar Parijs, maar dat moet nog even wachten. Maar aangezien we wel dwars door Parijs gereden zijn, vond ik dat een Eiffeltoren als souvenir wel moest kunnen ;). Hij is tenslotte in Parijs gekocht (weliswaar bij een tankstation, maar dat zeg ik er lekker niet bij ;)

Back from the Auvergne

I'm back! France is so lovely! Vacation was not as quiet as I hoped, but it was such a beautiful place... I'll show you :).
Ik ben terug! Frankrijk is zo mooi! De vakantie was niet zo rustig als ik hoopte, maar de omgeving was zo prachtig... Ik zal het laten zien :).

 

This was the view almost everywhere in the environment and I got a bit attached to them ;). They also have a lot of Charolais cows in the Auvergne (unfortunately no pictures of that at the moment).

Dit was het uitzicht bijna in de hele omgeving en ik ben er langzaam aan gehecht geraakt ;). Ook hebben ze heel veel Charolais koeien in de Auvergne (helaas heb ik daar geen goede foto's van op m'n laptop staan).

So this was my vacation. I learned that the camera on my phone is not that good, so most of the photo credits go to my dad and his super fancy camera :).
For now I'm continuing to learn French since in a couple of weeks I'll be going back to France for my internship! Exciting! And a bit scary... ;). And of course I have to read some blogs I have missed in the past couple of weeks ;).

Zo zag mijn vakantie er dit jaar uit. Ik leerde ook dat de camera op mijn telefoon niet heel goed is, dus de meeste foto's zijn door mijn vader gemaakt met zijn geweldige camera :).
Voor nu ga ik lekker door met Frans leren want over een paar weken mag ik al weer terug voor mijn stage! Spannend! En een beetje eng... ;). En natuurlijk moet ik wat blogs bijlezen die ik de afgelopen weken gemist heb ;).

Summer break

When you read this, I will be on my way to France! So no updates from me for a couple of weeks I guess (I should have written them in advance, but I lacked inspiration, sorry). When I'm back I hope to upload some lovely pics from the Auvergne!
Als je dit leest, ben ik onderweg naar Frankrijk! Eventjes geen updates van mij helaas (ik had ze natuurlijk van te voren moeten schrijven, maar ik had niet zo heel veel inspiratie, sorry). Als ik weer terug ben hoop ik wat mooie foto's van de Auvergne up te loaden!

Thrift store treasures!!!

Finally the adacemic year has come to an end and summer is finally there!! And what did I do the first day of this summer vacation? Right, I went to the thrift stores in the village my parents live :). It was the best thriftstore shopping spree in a long time! I found so many lovely things! Wanna see them?
Eindelijk is het collegejaar achter de rug en ook de zon laat zich zien!! En wat heb ik de eerste echte dag van de vakantie gedaan? Juist, ik ben naar de kringloopwinkels bij mijn ouders in de buurt gegaan :). En deze keer had ik zoveel mazzel met alle leuke spulletjes die ik vond! Willen jullie ze zien?

First I found this mirror. A little over the top, but it is real wood. I was planning on painting it blue to make it a bit more French, but he suits my wallpaper better the way he is now so he will stay this way for a while :).
 Als eerste kwam ik deze spiegel tegen. Een beetje kitsch, maar wel echt van hout. Ik was van plan 'm blauw te schilderen zodat hij er een beetje Frans uit zou gaan zien, maar zoals ie nu is past hij beter bij de muur dus voorlopig blijft hij zo :).

Next I found this vase... It is not that visible on this picture, but it is lead cristal (and therefore very heavy) with little leaves in it. I hope to make a better picture of it soon.
Toen vond ik deze vaas... Het is niet goed zichtbaar maar hij is van lood-kristal (en dus heel erg zwaar) met kleine blaadjes erin. Ik hoop dat ik snel een mooiere foto kan maken.

And then I found this dress! I never bought clothes before in a thrift store, but I immediately fell in love with it. And it was my size :). And it looked as good as new :).
En toen vond ik dit jurkje! Normaal sla ik de kledinghoek altijd over, maar toen ik dit jurkje zag kon ik er niet omheen. En hij was mijn maat :). En hij ziet er zo goed als nieuw uit :).

Then my mum suggested to also go to the other thrift store, and who am I to say no? :P What I found there was really the best treasure ever! I finally found the cup and sourcer I was looking for! Lady Carlyle stood there waiting for me ;).
Toen stelde mijn moeder voor om ook nog even naar de andere kringloop te gaan. Daar zeg ik natuurlijk geen nee tegen :P. En daar vond ik de mooiste kringloop vondst ever! Eindelijk heb ik ook een Lady Carlyle kopje, stond daar gewoon op mij te wachten :).

Bird house

And it is finished! My first birdhouse is done :). It was really fun to do, however it does show to be budget quality... 

En de eerste is af! Hij was leuk om te maken, maar toch echt Action kwaliteit....

  

So some tips:

• Spray paint the MDF white to make sure it doesn't shine through the paper.
• Lay out all pieces on the paper before you start cutting (oops).
• Use modge podge instead of other glue.

 Dus een paar tips voor als je ze zelf ook wil maken:

•  Spuit de MDF delen eerst wit, zodat het papier er niet doorheen schijnt.
• Leg alle onderdelen op het papier voor je begint met knippen (oeps ;) ).
• Gebruik modge podge i.p.v. lijm (ze hebben iets soortgelijks bij de Action). 

Still, I do like how it turned out :). Hope to make the second one sometime soon!
Toch vind ik hem wel leuk geworden, en tja het blijft Action ;). Ik hoop dat ik snel tijd heb voor de volgende!
